The Big Droke project, located
in Bird Cove on the Northern Peninsula, is the site of a
archaeological find of Maritime Archaic Indians. The Big Droke
project was founded in 1993 and in 1997 prominent Newfoundland
archaeologists started excavations. Today there 28 registered
archaeological sites. These sites are possibly the most
important in Newfoundland for depicting the day to day life of the
Maritime Archaic culture. The sites are undisturbed and are
accompanied by a speciality tool production area.
