The Big Droke project, located in Bird Cove on the Northern Peninsula, is the site of a archaeological find of Maritime Archaic Indians.  The Big Droke project was founded in 1993 and in 1997 prominent Newfoundland archaeologists started excavations.  Today there 28 registered archaeological sites.  These sites are possibly the most important in Newfoundland for depicting the day to day life of the Maritime Archaic culture.  The sites are undisturbed and are accompanied by a speciality  tool production area.
